    Job Overview

    A qualified and motivated Artisan: Millwright is required to join the Production team in Heilbron, Free State.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for performing electromechanical maintenance, fault-finding, repairs and continuous improvement activities to support optimal plant reliability, equipment availability and production efficiency.

    The role requires a technically skilled Millwright with experience in a food manufacturing environment and the ability to work with a range of electrical, mechanical, automation, instrumentation, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

    Job Description

    The Artisan: Millwright will assemble, install, test, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment within the plant.

    The successful candidate will contribute to preventative maintenance, machine optimisation, root cause analysis and continuous improvement while ensuring that all maintenance activities comply with applicable GMP, food safety, quality, health and safety standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Maintenance and Repairs

    • Assemble, install, test and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
    • Maintain and repair plant and equipment to ensure optimal reliability and availability.
    • Conduct fault-finding and analyse machine conditions and failures.
    • Provide technical and specialist support to the maintenance and production teams.
    • Perform modifications in accordance with company policies and procedures.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance according to prescribed schedules and work orders.
    • Conduct instrument verification and calibration as required.
    • Complete job cards and maintain accurate maintenance records.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Take a proactive approach to machine optimisation and continuous improvement.
    • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures.
    • Implement preventative measures to reduce recurring breakdowns.
    • Identify opportunities for energy and cost savings through effective maintenance practices.
    • Participate in Way Better teams.
    • Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving plant reliability and production efficiency.

    Compliance and Safety

    • Perform all maintenance activities in accordance with GMP requirements.
    • Comply with food safety and quality standards.
    • Follow health and safety requirements and company procedures.
    • Ensure maintenance work is completed according to prescribed standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Be a trade-tested Millwright.
    • Grade 12 / National Certificate.
    • N Levels in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a National Diploma in Engineering.
    • At least 3 years’ experience applying technical concepts in a food manufacturing plant.
    • Own toolbox.
    • Willingness to work overtime, shifts and standby duties when required.
    • Ability to work in extreme conditions.
    • Willingness to work in confined spaces.
    • Experience with spray drying equipment and processes will be advantageous.
