Job Description
The Stock Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate inventory management, stock reconciliation, stock variance resolution, and overall inventory control within the warehouse and distribution environment. The role focuses on maintaining accurate stock records, minimizing inventory losses, monitoring stock movements, and leading stock control activities to support efficient warehouse operations.
The successful candidate will also supervise stock-related processes, coordinate stock counts, manage inventory adjustments, oversee CHEP pallet transactions, and provide leadership to the stock control team.
Purpose of the Role
To maintain inventory accuracy and efficient stock management by:
- Monitoring stock movements.
- Managing stock variances and adjustments.
- Controlling aging and dead stock.
- Coordinating stock counts.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures and safety standards.
- Leading and supporting the stock team.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management and Reconciliation
- Reconcile stock movements between:
- Distribution centres
- Stores
- Customer deliveries
- Verify inventory transfers and adjustments.
- Maintain accurate stock records.
Stock Age and Dead Stock Management
- Monitor stock aging and expiry risks.
- Implement stock rotation practices.
- Manage obsolete, slow-moving, and dead stock.
- Coordinate product clearance, disposal, discounting, or supplier returns.
- Communicate stock risks to relevant departments.
Stock Variance Investigation
- Investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of stock variances.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent future losses.
- Maintain accurate inventory records.
Stock Adjustments and Corrections
- Process stock adjustments for:
- Damaged goods
- Expired stock
- Unsaleable products
- Inventory discrepancies
- Ensure proper documentation and procedural compliance.
Invoice Reconciliation
- Resolve stock-related invoice discrepancies.
- Work with finance and operational teams to ensure accurate invoicing and reconciliation.
Security and Camera Monitoring
- Maintain movement records of stock activities in loading areas.
- Conduct random camera checks.
- Monitor stock movement integrity.
- Identify and report irregularities or security concerns.
CHEP Pallet Management
- Manage CHEP pallet transactions and records.
- Ensure compliance with CHEP requirements and procedures.
- Monitor pallet tracking and accountability.
Stock Counts
- Coordinate cycle counts and stock takes.
- Ensure stock counts are conducted accurately.
- Reconcile physical counts against system records.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Visual Standards
- Monitor stock presentation and storage standards.
- Ensure stock arrangements support operational efficiency and customer service objectives.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce PPE usage and safety regulations.
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with company safety procedures.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support the stock control team.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly team meetings.
- Manage attendance and leave schedules.
- Provide coaching and on-the-job training.
- Address performance and employee relations matters.
- Monitor achievement of team goals and operational targets.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in a stock control, inventory control, or warehouse control role.
- FMCG retail or distribution experience is highly advantageous.
