Job Description
The Warehouse Operator: Picking is responsible for accurately selecting, counting, packing, and preparing products for dispatch according to picking instructions. The role supports efficient warehouse operations by ensuring that customer orders are fulfilled accurately, safely, and on time.
The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced frozen food distribution environment and contribute to maintaining inventory accuracy, warehouse organization, and customer satisfaction.
Purpose of the Role
To perform loose case and layer picking activities efficiently while ensuring:
- Accurate order fulfillment.
- Proper packing and pallet stability.
- Inventory accuracy.
- Compliance with safety standards.
- Efficient warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
Picking and Order Fulfillment
- Accurately pick products according to picking instructions.
- Select and gather loose cases and layers required for customer orders.
- Ensure correct quantities and product specifications are picked.
- Identify and report short-picked or out-of-stock items.
Packing and Pallet Building
- Pack products securely and efficiently.
- Use appropriate packaging materials and labels.
- Build stable pallets suitable for transportation and delivery.
- Ensure products are protected from damage during transit.
Stock Verification and Inventory Control
- Count and verify products during the picking process.
- Maintain inventory accuracy.
- Report stock discrepancies or inventory concerns.
- Work closely with inventory control personnel.
Warehouse Operations
- Operate picking equipment safely and efficiently.
- Locate products quickly and accurately within the warehouse.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Follow warehouse operating procedures and standards.
Quality Control
- Identify damaged products or packaging issues.
- Report incorrect labelling or product concerns.
- Ensure only quality products are prepared for dispatch.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures.
- Wear and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Operate equipment within prescribed safety standards.
- Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Training and Teamwork
- Participate in training and development initiatives.

Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a similar warehouse or logistics role.
- FMCG retail warehouse experience is advantageous.
Licensing
- Valid Electric Pallet Jack Licence (essential).
