Job Description
The Warehouse Area Supervisor is responsible for overseeing warehouse operations within freezer, chiller, and dry storage areas. The role focuses on stock control, stock rotation, inventory management, damage prevention, and team supervision to ensure efficient warehouse operations and product quality standards.
The successful candidate will lead warehouse operators responsible for stock put-away, replenishment, and rotation while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, operational procedures, and company standards.
Purpose of the Role
To manage warehouse storage areas effectively by:
- Controlling stock age and stock rotation.
- Minimising breakages and product losses.
- Supervising warehouse staff.
- Maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Ensuring safe and efficient warehouse operations.
- Supporting business performance through effective stock management.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory and Stock Management
- Monitor stock age and implement FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation practices.
- Ensure products are stored and rotated correctly to prevent expiry and obsolescence.
- Monitor stock levels and availability.
- Assist in preventing stock shortages and overstock situations.
Warehouse Operations
- Supervise warehouse operators responsible for:
- Put-away activities.
- Stock replenishment.
- Product rotation.
- Ensure operational efficiency across freezer, chiller, and dry storage areas.
- Coordinate daily warehouse activities to maintain workflow and productivity.
Product Quality and Loss Prevention
- Monitor breakages, damages, and product losses.
- Investigate causes of stock damage and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure product quality standards are maintained.
- Minimise waste and inventory shrinkage.
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Lead and supervise warehouse staff.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor performance.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly team meetings.
- Manage attendance, leave schedules, and workforce planning.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training.
- Address performance and employee relations matters.
Warehouse Maintenance and Compliance
- Conduct routine inspections of:
- Freezer facilities.
- Chiller facilities.
- Dry storage areas.
- Ensure cleanliness, organisation, and compliance with operational standards.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting
- Analyse warehouse performance data and operational metrics.
- Identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare reports on:
- Stock age
- Breakages
- Damages
- Warehouse performance
- Provide regular updates to management.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with inventory, logistics, receiving, dispatch, and operations teams.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound warehouse activities.
- Support smooth movement of stock throughout the supply chain.
Safety Management
- Enforce PPE usage and workplace safety procedures.
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Ensure all warehouse activities comply with safety standards and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or inventory management environment.
- Experience within FMCG retail, warehousing, or distribution operations is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is advantageous.
