Job Description
The Grain Procurer is responsible for increasing the company’s market share through the procurement and marketing of grain while maintaining excellent service delivery to both existing and prospective producers. The role involves developing strong relationships with grain producers, managing commodity trading portfolios, coordinating logistics, monitoring SAFEX positions, and implementing grain marketing strategies.
The successful candidate will combine agricultural market knowledge, sales ability, and commodity trading expertise to support business growth and profitability.
Main Purpose of the Role
To procure grain effectively, grow the company’s producer network, manage SAFEX-related activities, and provide strategic marketing and portfolio management services to clients while ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Grain Procurement
- Procure grain from producers within the allocated territory.
- Increase market share through business development activities.
- Identify and secure new grain procurement opportunities.
- Achieve procurement targets and business objectives.
- Monitor grain market trends and opportunities.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with grain producers.
- Provide ongoing support and service to existing clients.
- Develop relationships with potential new clients.
- Conduct regular client visits and consultations.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
SAFEX Trading and Portfolio Management
- Manage client SAFEX positions and trading activities.
- Monitor commodity market positions and exposures.
- Assist clients with options strategies and risk management.
- Provide portfolio management services.
- Develop tailored marketing and trading strategies for clients.
Marketing and Sales
- Promote grain marketing services to producers.
- Develop marketing strategies suited to client needs.
- Support market growth initiatives.
- Identify new business opportunities.
- Negotiate procurement agreements and contracts.
Logistics Coordination
- Plan and coordinate grain logistics for clients.
- Ensure timely collection and delivery of grain.
- Liaise with transport providers and operational teams.

- Resolve logistical challenges when they arise.
Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate procurement and client records.
- Prepare reports on procurement performance.
- Monitor progress against targets and objectives.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures and trading rules.
- Manage documentation related to grain procurement activities.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to SAFEX trading regulations.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualifications
Essential
- Appropriate Bachelor’s Degree (B-Degree).
Advantageous
- Degree in Marketing.
- Degree related to Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, or Commerce.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in grain marketing.
- Experience working with grain producers and agricultural markets.
- Experience in sales, procurement, or commodity trading environments.

Professional Requirements

- Valid Driver’s Licence.
