JOB DETAILS
- Position: Deli Manager
- Employment Type: Full-Time
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To lead and manage all deli operations (hot and cold food sections), ensuring strong sales performance, high-quality food production, excellent customer experience, and full compliance with food safety standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercial & Financial Performance
- Drive sales growth and profitability
- Manage gross margins, costs, and waste control
- Monitor daily sales, stock levels, and shrinkage
- Align production with demand to minimise waste
Production, Quality & Innovation
- Ensure consistent food quality and presentation
- Enforce recipe compliance and portion control
- Introduce new and seasonal food products
- Maintain freshness and proper stock rotation
Customer Experience & Merchandising
- Create an attractive and engaging deli display
- Implement promotions and product displays effectively
- Deliver excellent customer service
- Respond to customer feedback and improve offerings
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
- Monitor food handling, temperature control, and quality checks
- Manage staff schedules based on business needs
- Improve processes for efficiency and performance
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop deli staff
- Build a high-performing and motivated team
- Encourage accountability and continuous improvement
Reporting & Control
- Analyse sales, stock, and waste reports
- Identify risks and growth opportunities
- Maintain accurate records and reports
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Culinary or Hospitality qualification (Level 2)
- 3–5 years’ experience in fresh food retail/deli environment
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
