    Purpose of the Position

    The Retail Store Assistant supports the overall management and daily operations of the store by ensuring that customer service, cash handling, stock control, administrative processes, and operational procedures are executed according to company policies and standards.

    The role serves as an important link between customers, cashiers, receiving staff, and management to ensure efficient store operations and excellent customer service.

    Key Responsibilities

    Customer Service and Customer Relations

    • Assist customers with enquiries and provide information.
    • Build and maintain professional relationships with customers.
    • Resolve customer stock and service-related queries.
    • Escalate customer complaints and compliments to management.
    • Provide feedback to customers when required.
    • Refer customers to relevant departments when necessary.
    • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.

    Point of Sale (POS) and Cash Management

    • Manage shortages and overages (shorts and overs) at point of sale.
    • Control and reconcile cashier floats.
    • Process and oversee refunds and returns.
    • Ensure cash handling procedures are followed correctly.
    • Prepare daily run reconciliations.
    • Maintain accurate cash records and documentation.

    Stock and Inventory Control

    • Monitor and manage high-risk stock.
    • Ensure returned goods and back-shopping items are processed correctly.
    • Assist with stock investigations and stock-related queries.
    • Support inventory control processes.
    • Help minimize stock losses and shrinkage.

    Receiving and Deliveries

    • Verify deliveries and invoices for accuracy.
    • Assist the Receiving Manager with receiving processes.
    • Prepare and log Distribution Centre (DC) claims.
    • Ensure all stock discrepancies are reported and resolved.
    • Maintain accurate receiving documentation.

    Administrative Support

    • Maintain document control systems.
    • Manage petty cash and cash-on-hand records.
    • Process branch change requirements.
    • Order and receive cash change requirements for cashiers.
    • Maintain operational and administrative records.

    Operational Coordination

    • Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure operational procedures are followed consistently.
    • Support store management with daily operational activities.
    • Assist in maintaining efficient store operations.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education

    • Grade 12 / Matric.

    Experience

    • Previous retail experience.

    Technical Skills

    • Basic computer literacy:
      • Microsoft Word
      • Microsoft Excel
      • Microsoft Outlook
    • SAP system knowledge.
