Job Description
The Aspirant Prosecutor Programme provides graduates with practical legal training and mentorship to prepare them for prosecutorial duties within the National Prosecuting Authority.
Successful candidates will complete a structured training programme that combines legal knowledge, courtroom practice, ethics, and prosecution procedures. Continuous assessments will be conducted throughout the programme to determine competency for appointment as a Prosecutor.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the 12-month prosecutorial training programme.
- Attend all required legal training sessions and practical assignments.
- Develop courtroom advocacy and litigation skills.
- Apply criminal law and prosecution procedures under supervision.
- Comply with the NPA Code of Conduct and Policy Directives.
- Successfully complete continuous assessments during the programme.
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Be available for placement at any NPA office in South Africa after successful completion of the programme.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An LLB Degree or equivalent foreign qualification accredited by SAQA.
- Final-year LLB students may apply, provided the qualification will be completed before the programme starts.
- South African citizenship.
- The ability to work independently.

Programme Conditions
- Applicants must successfully pass the NPA entry examination as part of the selection process.
- Continuous assessments will be conducted throughout the programme.
- Permanent appointment is not guaranteed after completion of training.
- Successful trainees may be placed at any NPA office in South Africa.
- Trainees may not be permanently appointed in the same centre where they completed their training.
- Candidates must be available for the full 12-month programme.
- No late commencement requests will be accepted.
