Job Description
The Food Services Aid supports the hospital’s food services by preparing meals and snacks, serving patients, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and assisting with food distribution. The successful candidate will also help during field exercises, ensure food is served according to prescribed diets, and maintain hygiene standards in accordance with hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Meal Service
- Operate kitchen appliances safely and correctly.
- Prepare meals and snacks according to daily menus and ration scales.
- Assist with dishing up meals.
- Assist with food preparation during field exercises.
- Serve tea and coffee to patients.
- Ensure special diet meals are correctly prepared and distributed.
- Verify that the correct food quantities are supplied before meals leave the kitchen.
Patient Food Distribution
- Clean meal trays in hospital wards.
- Set up bedside tables for patients.
- Transport meals from the kitchen using food warming trolleys.
- Collect dishes after meals.
- Return food trolleys to the kitchen after use.
- Wash patients’ water bottles and provide fresh drinking water daily.
Cleaning and Hygiene
- Mop kitchen floors after each meal.
- Clean cupboards and kitchen walls weekly.
- Maintain cleanliness of food preparation areas and equipment.
- Ensure diet lists are delivered to the kitchen on time.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- ABET qualification.
- No previous work experience is required.
Required Knowledge
Applicants should have:
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment.
