JOB DESCRIPTION
This role focuses on technical support, maintenance, and performance of aviation communication systems used in air traffic management.
You will work on CNS systems, which include:
- Communication
- Navigation
- Surveillance
The goal is to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation of aviation systems that support air traffic control.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on CNS equipment and systems
- Follow:
- Manufacturer guidelines
- ATNS procedures (LSP & station instructions)
- Maintain site infrastructure:
- Buildings
- Roads, fencing, grass
- Antenna masts
- Power supply systems
- Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Corrective Maintenance
- Diagnose faults down to module (LRU) level
- Replace faulty components
- Restore systems using:
- Reconfiguration
- Remote monitoring systems (RCMMS)
- Perform different maintenance levels:
- O-Level (Operational)
- I-Level (Intermediate)
- D-Level (Depot – where required)
System Performance Analysis
- Monitor and analyse system performance
- Use:
- RCMMS (Remote Control & Monitoring Systems)
- B.I.T.E equipment (Built-In Test Equipment)
- CBMMS (Computer-Based Maintenance Systems)
- Ensure systems operate within required standards
Maintenance Support
- Write technical reports
- Capture maintenance data on systems
- Ensure compliance with:
- Airport regulations
- Radio Telephony (RT) procedures
- Understand system impact on national air traffic services
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- S4 National Diploma in Light Current Electronic Engineering
- Must allow registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
- Valid Code 8 driver’s licence
- Advantage: ACSA AVOP certification
Minimum Experience
- At least 3 years experience in CNS/ATM equipment maintenance
- Strong knowledge of:
- Electronics
- Communication systems
- Navigation systems
- Surveillance systems
- Display systems
Technical Knowledge
- Preventative & corrective maintenance processes
- Logistic Support Procedures (LSP)
- Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations
- Airport operations & RT procedures
- Ability to work independently (including call-outs)
Safety & Compliance
- Occupational Health & Safety knowledge
- Basic First Aid & Firefighting
- Compliance with aviation and maintenance regulations
