Position Overview

The position is a contractual appointment under a strict training programme aimed at providing hands-on experience in municipal finance. The successful candidate will work under supervision, with a focus on developing the necessary skills and knowledge in various financial management areas.
Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A recognized B. Com degree or National Diploma in one of the following fields:
- Financial Management
- Financial Accounting
- Management Accounting
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in office software
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well under pressure
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Applicants must be from a previously disadvantaged group and must currently be unemployed.
Key Responsibilities
The Municipal Finance Intern will be expected to engage in various tasks within the Finance Department, contributing to the overall efficiency of municipal financial management. Some of the main duties include:
- Assisting with National Treasury Budget Performance Programme: Helping implement and transform municipal budget processes in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Generally Recognized Accounting Practice (GRAP), and budget reforms.
- Developing Statistical Reporting Modules: Assisting in the creation of modules for financial data reporting and electronic data capturing.
- Supporting Financial Management: Assisting in all aspects of financial management within the municipality, gaining exposure to budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting processes.
The internship provides a dynamic learning environment that will expose candidates to key financial practices within a local government setting, offering invaluable practical experience.
Salary and Benefits
The selected intern will receive an annual salary of R100,000.00, which is competitive for entry-level municipal finance positions. As this is a fixed-term internship, there are no additional long-term benefits attached to the role.
