    The Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport – Fleet Management trading entity is seeking experienced and technically skilled Chief Artisans (Mechanical – Diesel Mechanic) to lead and supervise workshop operations in Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, and Bethlehem. This is a senior-level opportunity for professionals with a strong mechanical background, leadership ability, and commitment to public service delivery.

    Job Overview:

    • Job Title: Chief Artisan Grade A (Mechanical) – 3 Posts

      Location: Bloemfontein | Kroonstad | Bethlehem (1 post per location)
    • Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

    Responsibilities:

    • Supervise workshop staff and manage workload distribution.

    • Conduct internal technical training and mentorship.

    • Handle administrative tasks and assist with budgeting and expenditure tracking.

    • Control and manage stores, spares, and job-card administration using OSIS (computer system).

    • Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHAS Act).

    • Attend relevant departmental meetings and provide technical input.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic).

    • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience as an Artisan/Artisan Foreman.

    • Valid driver’s license.

    • Technical and soft skills including:

      • Project management and planning

      • Legal compliance knowledge

      • Computer-aided technical applications

      • Financial and technical report writing

      • Problem-solving and decision-making

      • Change management and effective communication in English
