    The Biodiversity Officer Production Grade A will be responsible for compliance monitoring, enforcement, and awareness in relation to biodiversity conservation and environmental legislation. This position requires candidates to carry out inspections, conduct investigations, enforce compliance, and promote cooperative governance while ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Conservation, Wildlife, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, or Law.

    • Knowledge of NEMBA (National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004) and other relevant biodiversity legislation.

    • Strong computer literacy.

    • Valid driver’s license.

    • Advantage: Previous experience in investigations.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Compliance Monitoring (Proactive):

      • Verify adherence to biodiversity and environmental requirements.

      • Conduct site inspections and prepare reports.

      • Review permit conditions and determine corrective actions.

    • Compliance Monitoring (Reactive):

      • Respond to complaints and investigate incidents of illegal activity.

      • Consult with environmental experts and legal representatives.

      • Gather, analyse information, and make recommendations.

    • Compliance Enforcement:

      • Support administrative, civil, and criminal enforcement actions.

      • Draft compliance notices, pre-directives, and affidavits.

      • Assist with prosecutions, provide court evidence, and collaborate with SAPS, NPA, DWAF, and municipalities.

    • Compliance Awareness & Promotion:

      • Facilitate environmental awareness workshops and sector-specific forums.

      • Liaise with NGOs, stakeholders, and civil society.

      • Support capacity building within the directorate.

    • Administration & Resource Management:

      • Compile and contribute to reports.

      • Control and manage allocated assets.

      • Ensure compliance with Public Service prescripts and financial guidelines.
