Job Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is seeking a qualified and experienced Artisan Foreman Grade A: Electrician to join the Colesberg Management Area on a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will supervise electrical maintenance activities, manage workshop operations, train offenders in electrical trade skills, and ensure the efficient use of resources while maintaining compliance with departmental policies and safety standards.
This position is ideal for an experienced electrician with strong leadership abilities and a passion for technical excellence and skills development.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Supervising and coordinating electrical maintenance and workshop activities.
- Training and developing offenders in electrical trade skills.
- Managing workshop administration and operational records.
- Controlling workplaces, equipment, and tools.
- Managing inventory, materials, and logistical administration.
- Planning and monitoring work orders and resource utilisation.
- Performing electrical design, installation, production, and maintenance activities.
- Ensuring compliance with technical standards, safety regulations, and administrative procedures.
- Maintaining and improving technical expertise and workmanship.
- Managing human resources, financial resources, and departmental assets.
- Monitoring and reporting on performance information and operational outputs.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
- A valid driver’s licence.
