Job Description
The National Department of Public Works Bloemfontein is inviting suitably qualified contractors to undertake the replacement, repair and servicing of air conditioning systems at designated Magistrate Courts in the Free State.
The appointed contractor will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing and replacing air conditioning equipment at the Bothaville, Theunissen, Wesselsbron, Bultfontein and Brandfort Magistrate Courts.
The work is intended to ensure reliable climate control, maintain functional air conditioning systems and minimise disruptions to the daily operations of the court facilities. The contractor will be required to carry out diagnostic assessments, repairs, component replacements and preventative servicing in accordance with the tender specifications and applicable safety and technical requirements.
Responsibilities
The successful contractor will be responsible for:
- Inspecting and assessing existing air conditioning systems at the designated court facilities.
- Diagnosing faults and identifying defective or damaged components.
- Repairing malfunctioning air conditioning units and associated systems.
- Replacing air conditioning units or components where required.
- Performing routine and preventative maintenance.
- Servicing air conditioning equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Repairing or replacing components such as compressors, fan motors and other mechanical/electrical parts where required.
- Conducting refrigerant-related work in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Checking system performance and identifying potential maintenance issues.
- Carrying out necessary system overhauls and corrective maintenance.
- Ensuring air conditioning systems operate safely and efficiently.
- Coordinating work across multiple court locations.
- Minimising disruption to court operations while work is being performed.
- Complying with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Following the technical specifications and conditions contained in the official tender documentation.
- Completing all work to the required quality and standards.
Requirements
Contractor Requirements
- Minimum CIDB Grade 1ME contractor grading or higher.
- Relevant experience in air conditioning, HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical/electrical maintenance.
- Suitable technical capacity to undertake air conditioner replacement, repair and servicing work.
- Ability to work across multiple sites in the Free State.
- Ability to comply with the Department of Public Works’ tender conditions and specifications.
Technical Skills
Contractors should have suitably qualified personnel with experience in:
- HVAC and air conditioning systems.
- Fault finding and diagnostic inspections.
- Mechanical and electrical cooling systems.
- Air conditioner installation and replacement.
- Compressor and fan motor repairs.
- Refrigerant systems and associated components.
- Preventative and corrective maintenance.
- General HVAC system servicing and performance testing.
Compliance Requirements
- Compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Compliance with relevant South African standards and technical requirements.
- Compliance with all specifications contained in the official tender documentation.
- Tenders must be submitted using the official tender documentation issued by the Department.
