    Job Overview:

    Cashbuild, Southern Africa’s leading retailer of building materials and associated products, is seeking an ambitious and driven Trainee Manager to join their team in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will assist the Store Manager in all aspects of store operations — including sales growth, asset control, human resource management, customer service, and compliance — while developing the leadership and operational skills necessary to progress into a management role.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.

    • Minimum 2 years’ retail management experience.

    • Valid driver’s licence and own transport.

    • South African ID or valid work permit.

    • Strong accounting, administrative, and leadership skills.

    • Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel).

    • Sound understanding of Health and Safety regulations (OHSA).

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

    • Own cell phone for communication and reporting purposes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Strategic and Operational Support

    • Assist the Store Manager with implementing and managing the Store Business Plan in alignment with company strategy.

    • Contribute to sales growth, market share, and profitability objectives.

    • Support customer loyalty programmes (e.g., VIC, charge cards).

    • Help develop and implement marketing and promotional activities.

    • Analyze competitor activity and recommend market protection strategies.

    Customer Service and Store Standards

    • Maintain customer satisfaction levels above 95% through quality service delivery.

    • Ensure the store meets all trading and merchandising standards.

    • Manage and monitor customer delivery services.

    • Conduct regular customer surveys and audits, taking corrective action where needed.

    Asset and Stock Control

    • Oversee stock management processes including receiving, IBTs, returns, and shrinkage control.

    • Assist in wall-to-wall stock takes and ensure compliance with inventory procedures.

    • Maintain cash control (daily banking, petty cash, debtors, and cheque management).

    • Ensure effective management of fixed assets, IT equipment, signage, forklifts, and generators.

    Human Resource Management

    • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and training of employees.

    • Support succession planning and career pathing initiatives.

    • Manage employee relations, communication, and disciplinary processes.

    • Oversee safety representatives, incident reporting, and compliance with OHSA standards.

    Financial and Administrative Management

    • Support the Store Manager in achieving the store’s operating income and audit benchmarks.

    • Monitor financial performance, budgets, and compliance to internal controls.

    • Implement and maintain corrective action plans when required.
