    Introduction

    A professional and customer-focused Switchboard Operator is sought to manage high volumes of incoming and outgoing telephone calls. This front-line position plays a key role in the smooth internal and external communication of the organisation.

    Purpose of the Role

    To operate a multi-line switchboard system efficiently while ensuring all callers receive prompt, courteous, and accurate assistance or redirection.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage all incoming and outgoing calls using a multi-line switchboard system.

    • Answer and transfer calls in a professional and timely manner.

    • Record accurate messages and ensure they reach the intended recipients.

    • Provide general information about the company’s services, products, and policies to callers.

    • Keep detailed logs of all calls for record-keeping.

    • Support the team with general administrative tasks as required.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Matric / High School Diploma or equivalent.

    • 1–2 years experience as a switchboard operator or in a related customer service/admin role.

    • Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills.

    • Strong multitasking and time management abilities.

    • Proficient in operating multi-line switchboard systems.

    • Calm under pressure and well-organised.

    • Basic computer literacy and good written communication.

    Required Skills

    • Customer Relation Skills: 1–2 years

    • Social Media Skills: 1–2 years (basic understanding beneficial)

    Working Conditions

    • Office-based position in a fast-paced environment.

    • Standard working hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional evening/weekend shifts depending on call volume or events.

    • Extended hours may be required during peak periods.
