    Job Overview

    The Internal Broker Consultant provides sales, underwriting, and administrative support to Broker Consultants, ensuring that all assigned sales transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and in line with company standards. The role plays a key part in supporting broker relationships, growing profitable business, and maintaining high levels of customer service.

    This position is suited to someone with short-term insurance experience, strong coordination skills, and the ability to manage multiple processes across sales, underwriting, renewals, and risk management, particularly within a commercial/trucking insurance environment.

    Job Description

    1. Sales and Marketing Support

    • Assist Broker Consultants in selling Hollard products to brokers and agents using consultative selling techniques.

    • Support marketing of products by responding to broker queries on policy status, billing, products, and processes.

    • Explain new and revised products, underwriting requirements, and internal procedures.

    2. Account and Portfolio Management

    • Support Broker Consultants in achieving targets for new business volume and value.

    • Manage all accredited brokers allocated to the portfolio.

    • Process all assigned quotes, maintain and update the quote register.

    • Send quotes to Broker Consultants for onward distribution to brokers.

    • Complete new business worklists and ensure follow-up on outstanding items.

    • Prepare renewals for negotiation with brokers (final sign-off by Broker Consultant).

    • Assist with servicing, retaining, and growing renewal policies.

    • Confirm rating and cover for endorsements.

    • Prepare new business closings before submission to underwriting.

    • Answer Broker Consultant’s telephone during absences.

    3. Renewals, Declarations, and Follow-Ups

    • Process and follow up on declaration letters.

    • Coordinate surveys and ensure risk recommendations are followed up using a diary system.

    • Assist with confirmation and tracking of survey outcomes.

    • Ensure all renewal documentation is accurate and timeously prepared.

    4. Financial and Credit Control Support

    • Assist in ensuring all premiums are received and accounts are up to date.

    • Work with Credit Control to review outstanding premiums and arrears monthly.

    • Discuss outstanding balances with brokers and follow up on resolutions.

    5. Risk Management and Compliance

    • Support credit control procedures, broker agreements, and loss ratio monitoring.

    • Ensure compliance with underwriting principles, rating guidelines, and reinsurance requirements.

    • Support adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

    6. Underwriting and Risk Analysis Support

    • Analyse qualitative and quantitative risk data submitted by brokers.

    • Assist with risk selection, acceptance, pricing, and coverage recommendations.

    • Recommend alternative rating structures, coverage options, and payment plans where appropriate.

    • Ensure reinsurance arrangements are in place where required.

    7. Relationship Management and Service Delivery

    • Maintain regular interaction with brokers and agents.

    • Deliver consistent, efficient, and professional service.

    • Enhance Hollard’s brand image through reliable and responsive broker support.

    Required Experience

    • 3–5 years’ experience in short-term insurance (essential)

    Required Knowledge and Skills

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Effective negotiation skills (internal and external)

    • Proven relationship management capability

    • Ability to analyse and interpret insurance data, reports, and market conditions

    • Good organisational and follow-up skills

    Educational Requirements

    • Matric (essential)

    • NQF Level 4 Insurance Qualification or equivalent (advantageous)

    • RE (Representative Exam) (advantageous)
