    Job Description

    Mediclinic Hoogland is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Professional Nurse Specialised – Neo Natal to provide safe, comprehensive, and high-quality nursing care within the neonatal unit. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure excellent patient outcomes while delivering specialised nursing care in accordance with the Nursing Scope of Practice.

    This role involves maintaining accurate patient records, promoting patient safety, supporting staff development, and ensuring the effective use of medical equipment and resources to deliver exceptional neonatal care.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver safe, comprehensive, and quality nursing care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
    • Assess, identify, prevent, and manage clinical risks to ensure patient safety.
    • Provide specialised nursing care to neonatal patients according to established nursing standards and protocols.
    • Create a positive and supportive environment that enhances the patient and family experience.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient care activities.
    • Develop and implement individualised nursing care plans.
    • Promote infection prevention and control measures.
    • Ensure accurate charging and management of stock, medication, and medical equipment used during patient care.
    • Support continuous learning and contribute to the development and competence of nursing staff.
    • Comply with relevant nursing legislation, hospital policies, and professional standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants should meet the following requirements:

    Essential Qualifications

    • Degree or Diploma in General Nursing.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Qualification in Midwifery.
    • Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in a relevant specialised nursing field.

    Experience

    • No minimum experience required.
    • Preferred: At least one year of post-qualification experience before placement in a specialised neonatal unit.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Sound knowledge of infection prevention and control.
    • Knowledge of pharmacology and medication administration.
    • Understanding of scientific nursing principles and nursing processes.
    • Patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
    • Ability to develop and modify nursing care plans.
    • Knowledge of nursing documentation and record keeping.
    • Understanding of relevant nursing legislation.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
    • Advanced emergency life support certifications applicable to specialised units, such as:
      • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
      • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
      • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to identify and manage clinical risks effectively.
