Job Description
Job Purpose:
To provide pharmaceutical services under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring optimal patient care by assisting with the preparation, sale, and supply of scheduled medication in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and 2 medicines
Support compounding, preparation, or packaging of non-sterile medication
Handle manufacturing and repackaging under pharmacist supervision
Assist in reading, processing, and preparing prescriptions
Accurately capture script and patient details
Ensure correct labelling, packing, and checking of medication
Provide medication usage instructions to patients
Manage stock control (ordering, receiving, distribution, and reporting)
Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorizations
Process medical aid claims and correct rejections
Maintain accurate customer profiles and system updates
Advise patients at dispensary, front-shop, and self-medication counters
Participate in bi-annual stock takes
Adhere to Dis-Chem’s SOPs and regulatory requirements
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Grade 12 / Matric
Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Computer literate – MS Office
Experience working on Unisolv
Sound numerical skills
Proficient in English and a second language
Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous:
Experience in Retail / FMCG operations
Knowledge of SAP, E-Scripting, and complementary medicine
Third additional language
