Job Overview
The Officer Environmental Management is responsible for supporting and executing environmental management activities within the designated area of Eskom’s Central East Cluster. This role ensures compliance with environmental legislation and governance requirements, supports the implementation of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and assists with obtaining and maintaining environmental approvals (e.g., waste management, water usage, atmospheric emissions, tree cutting permits). The role also involves monitoring environmental management plans, conducting investigations, and supporting environmental risk and compliance activities.
Purpose of the Role
To provide environmental management support in the designated business area, ensuring legal compliance, effective implementation of environmental management systems, and proper execution of environmental investigations and approvals processes.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
Ensure that environmental procedures and practices are implemented across the designated business area.
Compliance and Approvals
Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation and governance requirements.
Execute processes to obtain environmental approvals such as:
Environmental authorisation
Waste management permits
Water usage licenses
Atmospheric emission licenses
Tree cutting permits
Environmental Monitoring & Reporting
Implement and monitor environmental management plans.
Perform environmental investigations and incident assessments.
Provide accurate and professional environmental reporting.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
B Degree / Advanced Diploma in Natural Science or Environmental Management
(NQF7 with 360 credits)
Experience
Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience and/or completion of Eskom’s Graduate in Training (GIT) Programme in Environmental Management.
