Job Overview
The Head of Clinical Department: Family Medicine leads clinical services, outreach programs, teaching, research, and departmental administration. This senior position ensures high-quality service delivery, professional development of staff and trainees, and compliance with clinical governance and public service standards.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and supervise outreach, in-reach, and support services in the Free State
-
Render commuted overtime as required

Lead service delivery, administration, research, and teaching at UAH/UFS
-
Supervise the teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students

Perform duties as directed by the Head of Clinical Services / CEO / Head of School / Dean
-
Monitor and evaluate clinical indicators, including clinical audits, and provide reports
-
Ensure departmental compliance with National Core Standards and quality improvement initiatives
-
Support curriculum design, postgraduate supervision, and academic research activities
-
Maintain professional standards and contribute to institutional leadership and policy development
Minimum Requirements
-
Matric (Grade 12)
-
Qualification allowing registration with HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Family Medicine
-
Current HPCSA registration for 2026/2027
-
Certified service record as a Medical Specialist

South African citizen or permanent resident
Experience Required
-
Grade 1: Minimum 3 years post-registration experience as a Medical Specialist in Family Medicine
-
Grade 2: Equivalent or higher-level leadership and specialist experience
-
Demonstrated teaching, research, and departmental leadership experience
Knowledge & Skills
-
Leadership qualities and departmental management experience

Teaching, learning, and examining at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
-
Research experience: publications, postgraduate supervision, national/local research engagement, or PhD

Membership of relevant professional and managerial committees

Excellent communication, administrative, and organizational skills
