Job Overview
The Clinical Preceptor (Primary Care Nursing) is responsible for facilitating clinical education and supervision of nursing students within both the skills laboratory and clinical practice settings. The role ensures high-quality clinical teaching, student assessment, and professional support, while maintaining strong collaboration between the School of Nursing and healthcare facilities.
This is a 5-year contract position within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Teaching & Supervision
Orientate students in the skills laboratory and clinical facilities.
Facilitate clinical teaching, learning, and student assessments.
Accompany students in clinical facilities for supervision and support.
Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and remedial support.
Participate in evaluating clinical learning experiences.
Administration & Record Keeping
Monitor student clinical movements and maintain required records.
Maintain and submit a portfolio of evidence of own work.
Perform additional assigned clinical duties.
Stakeholder Engagement
Apply effective communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
Foster collaboration between students, clinical staff, and patients.
Mediate between the School of Nursing and clinical practice settings.
Inherent Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (NQF Level 8) or equivalent.
Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as:
Professional Nurse (General, Psychiatry, Community)
Midwife
Additional qualification in Primary Care Nursing.
Additional qualification in Nursing Education.
Valid driver’s license.

Recommendations
Master’s degree in Nursing (NQF Level 9).
Registration with SANC as an Assessor and/or Moderator.
