    Job Summary

    The University of the Free State is seeking a qualified Clinical Preceptor in Primary Care Nursing to support nursing students in clinical practice. The incumbent will provide clinical supervision, teaching, assessment, and support to students in both skills laboratories and clinical environments. The role ensures high standards of clinical education and helps bridge the gap between theory and practice.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Orientate students in the skills laboratory and clinical facilities

    • Facilitate clinical teaching and learning

    • Conduct assessments of students in clinical environments

    • Accompany students for continuous supervision and support

    • Monitor student clinical movements and maintain records

    Evaluation & Support

    • Participate in ongoing evaluation of clinical learning experiences

    • Provide remedial support where needed

    • Offer constructive feedback and coaching

    • Maintain a portfolio of evidence of work

    Administration

    • Keep accurate clinical records and documentation

    • Perform other clinical duties as assigned

    • Ensure compliance with UFS standards and clinical policies

    Collaboration

    • Mediate between the School of Nursing and clinical practice

    • Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and clinical teams

    • Apply conflict management skills to foster collaboration

     Requirements (Mandatory)

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 8) or equivalent

    Registration

    • Registered with South African Nursing Council (SANC) as:

      • Professional Nurse (General, Psychiatry, Community)

      • Midwife

    Specialist Qualification

    • Additional qualification in Primary Care Nursing

    Education Qualification

    • Additional qualification in Nursing Education

    Driving Requirement

    • Valid driver’s license

    Recommended / Advantageous Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 9)

    • Registration with SANC as assessor and/or moderator
