Learner Grain Procurer Job Description
As a Learner Grain Procurer, your primary role will be to support the Senior Grain Procurer in expanding OVK’s market share while minimizing business risks. You will work closely with farmers, silos, and the company’s grain division to ensure the efficient procurement of high-quality grain products.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- A relevant B Degree (BA, BSc, or BCom in Marketing) with an agricultural background
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication skills in Afrikaans and English
- Computer literacy (proficiency in MS Office and relevant procurement software)
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong marketing abilities to promote OVK’s grain services
- Excellent negotiation skills for securing contracts and pricing deals
Additional Requirements
- A valid driver’s license (as travel to farms and silos may be required)
Key Responsibilities
As a Learner Grain Procurer, you will be responsible for:
1. Providing Service to Producers & General Tasks
- Assisting farmers and grain producers with procurement requirements
- Advising farmers on grain pricing, quality standards, and delivery processes
- Ensuring smooth transactions and minimizing procurement risks
2. Liaising with Silos & Other Personnel
- Coordinating with silo managers and logistics teams to ensure proper grain storage and transport
- Working closely with agronomists and farm advisors to maintain grain quality standards
3. Managing Administration
- Handling contracts, invoices, and purchase orders related to grain procurement
- Keeping accurate records of grain transactions and supplier agreements
- Ensuring compliance with SAFEX trading regulations
4. SAFEX Trading & Contracting
- Learning and applying SAFEX trading principles in grain procurement
- Assisting in negotiating and finalizing grain contracts
- Monitoring grain market trends and making data-driven purchasing decisions
