    Job Overview

    The Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) is inviting applications for an Internal Auditor: Compliance Audit position based in Bloemfontein.

    The successful candidate will conduct internal audit assignments in accordance with the approved audit methodology and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards. The role involves assessing financial transactions, internal controls, compliance, state resources and departmental processes to identify irregularities, deviations and shortcomings.

    The position will also involve preparing audit findings and reports, evaluating internal control measures and assisting with investigations into accounting systems and procedures.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree at NQF Level 7 in Auditing.
    • Computer literacy.
    • A valid driver’s licence.

    Key Responsibilities

    Conducting Audit Assignments

    • Conduct internal audit assignments according to the approved audit methodology and IIA standards.
    • Collect, analyse, interpret and document audit information.
    • Determine whether the collection and expenditure of funds are regular and correctly accounted for.
    • Assess whether state money and goods are being used advantageously and efficiently.
    • Identify irregularities, deviations and shortcomings.
    • Apply appropriate audit procedures and techniques.
    • Interpret relevant legislation, policies, regulations and instructions.
    • Determine audit procedures and objectives.
    • Examine and compare book entries, accounts, statements, vouchers and other financial records.
    • Visit offices where cash, stock and other valuable items are received, stored, issued or paid.
    • Compare physical stock on hand with records and official returns.

    Audit Reporting

    • Assist with the preparation of draft audit reports for management review.
    • Document audit findings and recommendations.
    • Highlight irregularities, deviations and shortcomings.
    • Prepare audit queries, submissions and official correspondence.
    • Ensure audit findings are accurately and clearly documented.

    Internal Controls

    • Evaluate internal control measures within the department.
    • Assist with the investigation and evaluation of internal checking and control systems.
    • Assess existing and proposed accounting systems and procedures.
    • Collect, analyse and evaluate information relating to systems, controls, measures and processes.
    • Assess the effectiveness of controls using relevant experience, knowledge and audit principles.
