    Job Purpose

    The Researcher supports the planning and execution of GLP/GCP-regulated animal health research studies by performing laboratory procedures, technical research activities, animal handling, study administration, and data management. The role ensures that research is conducted in accordance with approved study protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Research Activities

    • Participate in daily research activities.
    • Prepare study doses.
    • Administer treatments according to study protocols.
    • Observe study animals.
    • Collect biological samples.
    • Perform technical research procedures.
    • Ensure safe and effective execution of research studies.

    2. Study Administration

    • Assist with Study Master File administration.
    • Prepare study documentation.
    • Support study close-out activities.
    • Review raw research data.
    • Perform data management tasks.
    • Prepare final study files for shipment and archiving.

    3. Study Support

    • Support the Study Director and Principal Investigator.
    • Assist with the execution of research studies.
    • Ensure study activities comply with approved protocols.
    • Contribute to successful project completion.

    4. Adverse Event Reporting

    • Monitor study activities.
    • Report adverse events promptly to the Study Director or Investigator.
    • Maintain accurate incident records.

    5. Data Management

    • Record raw study data accurately.
    • Maintain consistent research documentation.
    • Ensure data integrity.
    • Support departmental record management.

    6. Animal Care

    • Maintain animal health and welfare.
    • Handle research animals safely and ethically.
    • Follow animal welfare regulations.
    • Assist with veterinary-related procedures.

    7. Clinical and Para-Veterinary Support (where SAVC registered)

    • Provide clinical assistance to veterinarians.
    • Perform para-veterinary duties in accordance with SAVC regulations.
    • Manage veterinary products.
    • Store scheduled and unscheduled veterinary medicines appropriately.

    8. Laboratory Management

    • Maintain laboratory cleanliness.
    • Ensure laboratory equipment remains operational.
    • Follow biosafety procedures.
    • Maintain laboratory standards.

    9. Team Collaboration

    • Work effectively with multidisciplinary research teams.
    • Support successful execution of research projects.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must have one of the following:

    • Degree in Natural Science.
    • Degree in Biological Science.
    • Degree in Laboratory Animal Technology.
    • Diploma in Animal Health.

    Experience Requirements

    Applicants should have:

    • 2–3 years’ relevant research experience.

    Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

    The following will be advantageous:

    • Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
    • Specialisation in:
      • Entomology
      • Parasitology
      • Zoology
    • Previous experience in a Contract Research Organisation (CRO).
