    • Salary: R253,341 – R424,371 per annum
      • Salary level and notch will be determined according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) requirements and years of relevant experience.

    Job Purpose

    The Artisan Production (Electrician) is responsible for providing electrical maintenance and repair services, managing electrical maintenance projects, ensuring that buildings and electrical installations meet required standards, training offenders and apprentices, and managing resources to support the safe and efficient operation of correctional facilities.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Electrical Maintenance

    • Perform electrical maintenance and repair work.
    • Inspect electrical installations and systems.
    • Diagnose electrical faults.
    • Repair electrical equipment and installations.
    • Ensure electrical systems operate safely and efficiently.
    • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.

    2. Quality Assurance

    • Assess the quality of electrical services.
    • Ensure electrical work complies with required standards.
    • Monitor workmanship quality.
    • Promote compliance with technical specifications and regulations.

    3. Building Maintenance

    • Maintain electrical infrastructure within departmental facilities.
    • Ensure building electrical systems remain operational.
    • Support maintenance of departmental assets.

    4. Project Management

    • Manage electrical maintenance projects.
    • Plan maintenance activities.
    • Coordinate project implementation.
    • Monitor project progress.
    • Ensure projects are completed within required standards and timeframes.

    5. Training and Skills Development

    • Train offenders in electrical trade skills.
    • Mentor and supervise apprentices.
    • Promote skills development and practical workplace learning.
    • Monitor trainee progress.

    6. Resource Management

    • Manage tools and equipment.
    • Monitor the use of electrical materials.
    • Ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
    • Maintain equipment required for maintenance activities.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Electrician) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act (Red Seal).
    • A valid driver’s licence.
