    Job Overview: Underwriter

    Third Age Group is expanding its Bloemfontein team and is seeking a skilled and motivated Underwriter to join their dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting new business, processing policies, managing large quotes, and providing technical support to intermediaries and internal brokers across various classes of short-term insurance. This role is ideal for individuals with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for underwriting.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Process and underwrite new business quotes for intermediaries.

    • Handle large quotes from initial quotation through to policy issuance.

    • Provide technical underwriting and rating advice across all insurance classes.

    • Assess and accept risk for internal brokers and handle referral/unique risks.

    • Interpret and process technical information accurately.

    • Load new policies onto the system and process amendments to existing ones.

    • Manage policy processing for book takeovers and bulk increases.

    • Build strong relationships with managers and intermediaries.

    • Apply product and system knowledge of major short-term insurance companies.

    Position Requirements

    • Matric certificate.

    • RE1 or RE5 (recommended).

    • COP or insurance-related qualification (recommended).

    • 3–5 years’ experience in the insurance industry with strong underwriting knowledge (policy wordings, pricing, systems, etc.).

    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and strong system-processing ability).

    • Working knowledge of Tial system (advantageous).

    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

    • Strong attention to detail.

    • Bilingual: English & Afrikaans.
