AVBOB is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable SHE Officer to ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across the organisation. The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing SHE policies, driving workplace safety initiatives, and supporting a proactive safety culture. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance
Implement and monitor AVBOB’s SHE policies, procedures, and standards.
Conduct risk assessments (HIRA) and implement preventive and corrective measures.
Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
Inspections, Audits & Continuous Improvement
Conduct routine site inspections, SHE audits, and safety walks.
Lead 5S activities and drive ongoing safety and environmental improvements.
Manage incident investigations, including near-misses, accidents, and hazards, and produce detailed reports with corrective actions.
Training & Awareness
Deliver SHE training sessions, induction programs, and toolbox talks to employees and contractors.
Maintain up-to-date safety records, including training logs, SDS files, audit reports, and incident documentation.
Stakeholder Engagement
Promote a strong, positive SHE culture across all levels of the organisation.
Collaborate with operational teams to integrate SHE requirements into daily tasks.
Liaise with external regulatory authorities, inspectors, and contractors when required.
Administration & Reporting
Maintain accurate SHE databases and documentation.
Prepare high-quality reports, statistics, and analysis for management.
Support SHE planning, organising, and implementation activities.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric)
Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
2–5 years experience in a SHE/HSE Officer role
Working knowledge of relevant SHE legislation, standards, and compliance frameworks
Competencies/certifications:
SHE Representative
First Aid Level 3
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
Good report writing and problem-solving abilities
Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiating, and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and maintain strong self-motivation and results focus
Database maintenance and record-keeping experience
