Job Overview / Description
The Payroll Specialist at VKB Group plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for approximately 1,000 employees. The role is based at the Head Office in Reitz, Free State, within the Human Capital division. This position requires a detail-oriented, analytical, and service-driven professional who can manage full payroll functions, ensure compliance with payroll legislation, support HR and Finance, and participate in process improvements. Job Summary
The Payroll Specialist will manage the monthly payroll cycle, maintain accurate employee and payroll records, ensure legislative compliance, prepare statutory returns, and support multiple departments with payroll-related information. The role demands strong technical payroll expertise, excellent Excel and SAGE People skills, and the ability to handle deadlines and audits. Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Administration

Full payroll function for allocated departments/entities (±1,000 employees).

Process monthly payroll accurately and on time.

Maintain and update payroll financial records.

Manage electronic timekeeping systems.

Calculate hours, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and tax withholdings.

Prepare and issue earnings statements.
Compliance & Reporting

Ensure payroll complies with legislation (BCEA) and company policies.

Reconcile General Ledger accounts.

Handle all statutory returns and third-party payments.
-
Perform monthly SARS EMP201 submissions.

Complete mid-year and year-end SARS EMP501 submissions.

Prepare payroll summaries: earnings, deductions, leave, taxes, etc.
Support & Coordination

Respond to employee payroll queries professionally.

Work closely with HR to ensure accurate employee data.

Support Finance and Human Capital with reports and audits.

Coordinate with Health & Safety for IOD submissions and annual audits.

Participate in HR/Payroll meetings.
Process Improvement & Projects

Identify opportunities to improve payroll efficiency.

Lead or support special projects:

— Process validation
Job Requirements
Education
-
Grade 12 / NQF 4 with Accounting as a subject.

A relevant qualification in Finance or Human Resource Management is advantageous.
Experience
-
3+ years payroll experience.

Experience using SAGE People is essential.

Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and BCEA.
