Job Description
The Vaal-Orange Catchment Management Agency is seeking an experienced Legal Administrative Officer to provide comprehensive legal support to the organisation and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and governance requirements.
The successful candidate will provide legal advice, conduct research, draft and review contracts and agreements, support litigation matters and assist with compliance relating to the National Water Act, PAIA, PAJA, the Constitution and public-sector financial and administrative legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures.
- Provide legal opinions and advice on matters affecting the organisation.
- Draft legal opinions, documents and supporting documentation for criminal prosecutions relating to contraventions of the National Water Act.
- Draft legal documents, memoranda, reports and submissions.
- Draft, review and vet contracts on behalf of the organisation.
- Provide legal advice on contractual matters.
- Negotiate and draft multilateral and bilateral agreements.
- Handle litigation matters and appeals on behalf of the Catchment Management Agency.
- Provide legal support in all litigation matters.
- Develop appropriate interventions when legal or operational challenges arise.
- Monitor compliance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), 2000.
- Monitor compliance with the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), 2000.
- Handle PAIA and PAJA matters on behalf of the CMA.
- Conduct legal research and provide interpretation of relevant legislation.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An LLB degree or relevant legal qualification.
- At least eight years of appropriate post-qualification legal experience.
