Job Overview
Botshabelo District Hospital is seeking a qualified Professional Nurse specialising in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing to provide comprehensive maternal and neonatal nursing care. The successful candidate will support the delivery of quality healthcare services, promote safe motherhood and newborn care, and contribute to the effective functioning of the maternity unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality maternal and neonatal nursing care.
- Ensure compliance with recommendations for saving mothers and babies.
- Implement programmes including EPI, PPIP and EMTCT.
- Promote the Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI).
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and waste management guidelines.
- Provide comprehensive nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assist with planning, organising and monitoring maternity unit objectives.
- Delegate duties and support nursing staff in delivering patient care.
- Supervise nursing and housekeeping staff and provide guidance.
- Ensure continuity of patient care through proper handovers and documentation.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and other hospital departments.
- Assist with effective utilisation of human, material and financial resources.
- Participate in staff training, research and nursing service support.
- Act as a junior shift leader and assist with supervisory duties when required.
- Participate in maternal and morbidity meetings.
- Provide in-service education on maternal and neonatal complications, including emergency drills.
- Maintain professional growth, ethical standards and continuous self-development.
Minimum Requirements
- Senior Certificate.
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic qualification in Advanced Midwifery & Neonatal Nursing Science of at least one year, accredited by SANC.
- Current SANC registration for 2026/2027.
- At least 4 years’ appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
- Knowledge of nursing legislation, policies, procedures and relevant healthcare frameworks.
- Knowledge of the Nursing Act, Health Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Patient Rights Charter and Batho Pele principles.
