Job Overview
The Engineering Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all engineering activities at a mining operation in the Free State. The position focuses on ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of engineering strategies, maintenance programs, and capital projects in compliance with statutory mining regulations.
This role requires a highly experienced engineering professional with strong leadership capabilities, extensive underground and plant exposure, and a solid track record in project execution within the mining industry. The Engineering Manager plays a critical role in operational excellence, asset integrity, and long-term sustainability of the mine.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all engineering functions across the mining operation, ensuring compliance with legal, safety, and operational standards.

Ensure engineering activities comply with the GCC Mines & Works and all applicable mining legislation.

Oversee maintenance strategies for shafts, underground operations, trackless mobile machinery (TMM), and processing plants.

Plan, execute, and manage capital and operational engineering projects to support production targets and business objectives.

Drive engineering performance through effective asset management, reliability improvement, and cost control.

Provide strong leadership to engineering teams, contractors, and technical specialists.

Develop and implement engineering systems, procedures, and standards aligned with best practices.

Collaborate with mine management and other departments to support overall operational efficiency and safety.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (BEng or BSc) – Electrical or Mechanical
-
GCC – Mines & Works (Mandatory)
-
Management Development Programme (MDP) or equivalent
Experience & Knowledge
-
Minimum 12 years’ experience within the mining industry
-
Extensive experience in:
-
Underground and shaft operations
-
Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM)
-
Processing plants
-
Engineering project execution
-
-
Proven experience in senior engineering or management roles
