Job Description
The Store Manager is responsible for leading and managing the daily operations of the store to ensure that sales targets, customer service standards, operational excellence, and profitability objectives are achieved. The role requires effective management of stock, staff, customer experience, compliance, financial performance, and innovation initiatives.
The successful candidate will be expected to drive business growth while maintaining high operational standards and developing a motivated, high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Management
- Ensure stock is accurately received, unpacked, merchandised, and replenished.
- Monitor stock levels to ensure product availability.
- Implement stock control processes to reduce stock losses and shrinkage.
- Maintain stockroom housekeeping and organisational standards.
- Authorise write-offs, returns, recalls, and breakages.
Sales Growth and Profitability
- Analyse sales and profitability reports.
- Develop and implement action plans to improve store performance.
- Monitor store expenses and manage budgets effectively.
- Evaluate product performance and provide feedback to support centres.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and strengthen brand awareness.
- Drive achievement of sales targets and profitability goals.
Risk Management
- Conduct compliance checks and store audits.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Minimise operational and financial risks.
- Promote a culture of accountability and compliance.
Customer Experience Management
- Ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained.
- Implement promotions, markdowns, repricing, and visual merchandising initiatives.
- Manage customer feedback and resolve complaints effectively.
- Maintain store cleanliness and presentation standards.
- Deliver a positive and consistent shopping experience.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, motivate, and manage the store team.
- Drive achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Identify training and development opportunities.
- Support talent management and succession planning.
- Recruit, onboard, and manage staff performance.
- Conduct coaching and performance reviews.
Innovation and Process Improvement
- Implement innovation initiatives introduced by Head Office.
- Improve store processes and operational efficiency.
- Support customer-focused retail innovations.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
Experience
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a retail store management role.
- Experience managing sales performance and customer service operations.
- Experience leading and supervising retail teams.
Knowledge
- Sales and service management.
- Retail operations and store administration.
- Budgeting and financial management.
- Stock control and inventory management.
- Understanding of retail products, customers, brands, and market trends.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
