Job Description
The Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing credit risk, analysing financial data, and supporting lending decisions within the bank.
The role focuses on risk-adjusted pricing, credit ratings, and financial analysis, particularly within the agricultural sector, ensuring compliance with Basel requirements and internal risk models.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Analysis & Risk Assessment
- Analyse financial statements and extract key data for credit ratings
- Assess creditworthiness of current and prospective clients
- Apply appropriate internal rating models for transactions
- Support risk-adjusted pricing and Basel compliance
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare Credit Risk Applications (CRA) with supporting documents
- Summarise model inputs and ensure consistency of information
- Provide explanations of credit ratings and financial returns
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with front office and credit managers
- Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Facilitate communication between model developers and business units
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal risk frameworks
- Liaise with risk departments on credit model inputs
- Identify risk mitigations and provide recommendations
Team Support & Development
- Coach and train junior staff
- Share industry knowledge and trends
- Support process improvements and business efficiency initiatives
Minimum Requirements
- NQF Level 6 or higher in:
- Financial Management
- Accounting
- Finance / Analysis (or related field)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in:
- Credit analysis
- Business banking
- Evaluating financial statements and credit reports
- Agricultural sector experience (essential)
