    Job Purpose

    The Part-Time Lecturer – Tourism Management is responsible for delivering lectures, supporting student learning, preparing and assessing students, monitoring academic performance, and contributing to continuous improvement in teaching and learning. The lecturer also assists the Programme Coordinator in monitoring module performance and identifying students or modules that require academic intervention.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Teaching and Learning

    • Deliver lectures according to module requirements and academic schedules.
    • Facilitate engaging learning experiences.
    • Ensure teaching aligns with module pacers and curriculum requirements.
    • Apply effective teaching and learning methodologies.

    2. Student Support

    • Provide academic guidance and consultation to students.
    • Identify students who are academically at risk.
    • Support student success through academic intervention and mentoring.
    • Encourage active participation in learning activities.

    3. Assessment

    • Prepare students for assessments.
    • Develop assessments in line with Central Academic Team guidelines.
    • Mark assessments and provide constructive feedback.
    • Monitor assessment submissions.
    • Escalate concerns relating to student performance where necessary.

    4. Learning Management System (LMS)

    • Update the Learning Management System with learning materials.
    • Upload assessments and learning resources.
    • Record student feedback.
    • Maintain accurate academic records.

    5. Academic Administration

    • Manage academic resources.
    • Liaise with the Information Centre regarding learning materials.
    • Maintain module documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with institutional academic policies and procedures.

    6. Student Performance Monitoring

    • Monitor student engagement.
    • Analyse module results.
    • Review academic performance.
    • Support the identification and monitoring of at-risk students.
    • Assist in identifying modules requiring academic intervention.

    7. Academic Meetings

    • Attend faculty and departmental meetings.
    • Participate in academic planning sessions.
    • Contribute to quality assurance initiatives.
    • Collaborate with academic colleagues and Programme Coordinators.

    8. Professional Academic Development

    • Complete the required academic professional development activities during each academic cycle.
    • Participate in initiatives that enhance teaching and learning practices.
    • Maintain and improve professional academic standing.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A Degree, Honours Degree, or Master’s Degree in Tourism Management.
    • A qualification that is at least one NQF level higher than the qualification being taught.
    • A copy of their academic transcript.

    Experience Requirements

    Essential

    • 2–3 years’ lecturing or formal tutoring experience.

    Advantageous

    • 1–3 years of industry experience in Tourism Management or a related field.
