Job Purpose
The Part-Time Lecturer – ICT is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The lecturer will facilitate student learning, provide academic support, prepare and assess students, contribute to academic quality, and participate in research and development activities while supporting the Academic Department.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
- Deliver lectures in accordance with module requirements and academic schedules.
- Facilitate engaging and interactive learning experiences.
- Ensure teaching aligns with curriculum and module pacers.
- Apply appropriate teaching methods to enhance student understanding.
2. Student Support
- Conduct student consultations.
- Provide academic guidance and mentoring.
- Identify students who may be academically at risk.
- Support students through remediation and intervention where necessary.
- Encourage active participation in learning.
3. Assessment
- Prepare students for formative and summative assessments.
- Develop assessments according to Central Academic Team guidelines.
- Mark and provide constructive feedback on assessments.
- Monitor assessment submissions.
- Escalate concerns relating to student performance or non-submission.
4. Learning Management System (LMS)
- Update the Learning Management System with relevant learning materials.
- Upload assessments and learning resources.
- Record and provide student feedback.
- Maintain accurate academic records.
5. Academic Administration
- Manage academic resources and teaching materials.
- Liaise with the Information Centre regarding learning resources.
- Maintain accurate module documentation.
- Ensure compliance with institutional academic policies.
6. Student Performance Monitoring
- Monitor student attendance and engagement.
- Analyse module performance.
- Review assessment results.
- Assist in improving student success rates.
- Participate in identifying and supporting at-risk students.
7. Academic Meetings
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Participate in faculty meetings.
- Contribute to academic planning discussions.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
8. Research and Development
- Contribute to academic research and development.
- Build and maintain knowledge within the ICT discipline.
- Support curriculum enhancement and innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have one of the following:
Preferred
- Master’s Degree in one of the following:
- Information Systems
- Computer Science
- IT Management
- Computing
- Computer and Information Sciences
- Network Engineering
Added Advantage
- PhD in a related ICT discipline.
Alternative Qualification
- NQF Level 9 qualification with exposure to:
