Job Description
The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and non-blood specimens from patients while providing a professional, compassionate and high-quality patient experience. The successful candidate will perform phlebotomy procedures safely and accurately, maintain proper patient records and contribute to the smooth operation of diagnostic services.
The role requires a strong focus on patient care, accuracy, confidentiality and compliance with healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood and non-blood specimens accurately and safely.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures according to required standards.
- Ensure accurate documentation and patient data management.
- Handle payments and related administrative duties when required.
- Prioritise patient safety and quality throughout the specimen collection process.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients.
- Use digital tools and systems to manage patient information.
- Build trust and provide a positive patient experience.
- Represent the Ampath brand professionally.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, teamwork and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Phlebotomy or Nursing.
- Current registration with:
- HPCSA as a Phlebotomy Technician, or
- SANC as a Registered Nurse.
- Strong communication skills in English.
- Ability to use digital tools and systems.
- Strong attention to detail.
