Job Purpose
The Occupational Health Assistant provides clinical, technical, logistical, and administrative support within the Occupational Health department. The role ensures smooth delivery of medical surveillance services, proper handling of equipment and vehicles, and accurate health data recording.
Key Responsibilities
Occupational Health Support
- Assist with medical screening tests:
- Audiometry (hearing tests)
- Vision testing (Keystone)
- Spirometry (lung function tests)
- Support Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner during medical examinations
Vehicle & Field Operations
- Drive Occupational Health vehicle to client sites
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance coordination
- Ensure vehicle is properly managed and operational
Equipment & Medical Support
- Maintain and calibrate occupational health equipment
- Assist with stock control and ordering of medical supplies
- Support biological waste handling and disposal coordination
Administration & Data Management
- Capture and update medical records
- Assist with reporting and data entry
- Ensure confidentiality of all medical information
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Valid Code B driver’s licence (or higher)
- Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Willingness to undergo occupational health training
Advantageous Experience
- Healthcare, clinic, or occupational health experience
- Experience in medical screening or fieldwork
- Experience driving and maintaining company vehicles
