    Job Description

    The Kitchen / Bakery Internship provides graduates with practical workplace experience in food production, bakery operations, food quality assurance, food safety, and institutional catering within the Department of Correctional Services.

    The successful candidate will gain exposure to food preparation processes, bakery production, quality control systems, food safety standards, inventory management, and operational procedures within correctional facilities.

    This internship is designed to help graduates apply their academic knowledge while developing practical skills in food production and management environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Food Production Support

    • Assist with food preparation and production activities.
    • Support kitchen and bakery operations.
    • Monitor food production processes to ensure quality standards are maintained.
    • Assist with meal planning and food preparation schedules.

    Bakery Operations

    • Support bread and bakery product production processes.
    • Assist in monitoring baking procedures and product quality.
    • Ensure compliance with established bakery production standards.
    • Support efficient bakery workflow and operations.

    Food Quality Control

    • Monitor food quality and product consistency.
    • Assist with quality assurance inspections.
    • Support implementation of food safety procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with food production standards.

    Food Safety and Hygiene

    • Assist with maintaining food hygiene standards.
    • Support implementation of food safety regulations.
    • Monitor sanitation and cleanliness within food production areas.
    • Participate in health and safety inspections.

    Inventory and Stock Management

    • Assist with stock control and inventory management.
    • Monitor food ingredient usage and stock levels.
    • Support ordering and receiving procedures.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records.

    Administration and Reporting

    • Maintain production and quality records.
    • Assist with report preparation and documentation.
    • Support compliance and audit processes.
    • Perform general administrative duties as required.

    Operational Support

    • Participate in departmental projects and activities.
    • Attend training and development programmes.
    • Assist supervisors with operational tasks and assignments.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    Applicants must possess a:

    • National Diploma or Degree in Food and Consumer Science

    OR

    • National Diploma or Degree in Food Technology

    • Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
    • Quality control and quality assurance skills.
