Job Overview
Econo Foods is seeking a highly organised and analytical Fleet Coordinator to join its Logistics Support team in Bloemfontein. This contract position is responsible for the national coordination, governance, and optimisation of the company’s fleet, ensuring that vehicles and transport assets remain compliant, cost-effective, and fully operational.
The successful candidate will oversee fleet performance, maintenance, fuel management, compliance, telematics, and budgeting while working closely with logistics, finance, and regional operations teams to support efficient nationwide transport operations.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Asset & Fuel Management
- Oversee and manage the company’s fleet assets across all regions.
- Monitor diesel consumption, fuel usage trends, and fuel variances.
- Manage fuel card systems, allocations, and reconciliations.
- Analyse driver behaviour using telematics and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Vehicle Maintenance & Operations
- Ensure all fleet vehicles are licensed, roadworthy, and properly maintained.
- Maximise fleet uptime by reducing vehicle downtime through preventative maintenance.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules, service bookings, and vehicle repairs.
- Manage vehicle breakdowns and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain fleet appearance and company image standards.
Fleet Governance & Compliance
- Maintain accurate digital fleet records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle licences, Certificates of Fitness (COFs), inspections, warranties, and audit requirements.
- Implement effective fleet control measures to reduce operational risks.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with national transport legislation and workplace safety regulations.
- Investigate vehicle accidents and implement corrective actions.
- Promote driver safety initiatives and employee wellbeing programmes.
Cost Management
- Assist with fleet budgeting and expenditure monitoring.
- Identify and implement fleet cost-saving opportunities.
- Support Finance with fuel reconciliation processes.
- Analyse vehicle maintenance and repair costs to ensure competitive pricing.
- Monitor fleet utilisation and optimise cost per kilometre.
- Support decisions relating to vehicle replacement, refurbishment, and disposal.
Technology & Performance Monitoring
- Manage fleet tracking systems and telematics platforms.
- Prepare fleet performance reports and operational analysis.
- Develop driver training programmes and performance incentive initiatives.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Distribution Centre Transport Managers, Regional Managers, Finance, and People Operations.
- Provide national fleet support and communicate fleet-related updates across the business.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in fleet management or logistics.
- Previous experience within the FMCG retail industry will be advantageous.
- Experience managing fleet maintenance, compliance, and fuel systems.
- Practical experience using telematics systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
