    Job Description

    The Community Development Supervisor will supervise and support the identification, facilitation and implementation of integrated community development interventions. The role involves working with communities, government departments, NGOs, community structures and other stakeholders to promote sustainable development, self-empowerment and effective service delivery.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise the identification, facilitation and implementation of integrated community development interventions.
    • Work in partnership with communities and relevant stakeholders to address community development needs.
    • Resolve problems and provide support to employees involved in community development activities.
    • Supervise and support Community Development Practitioners.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between internal and external role players.
    • Promote collaboration with government departments, provinces, NGOs, local community structures and faith-based organisations.
    • Facilitate intersectoral collaboration, integrated planning and partnerships.
    • Support the sustainability of development activities within communities.
    • Guide Community Development Practitioners to improve their performance.
    • Provide administrative support for community development and related activities.
    • Keep up to date with developments in the community development field to enhance service delivery.
    • Supervise, mentor, coach and advise Community Development Practitioners.
    • Manage the relevant sub-unit.
    • Monitor and evaluate non-profit organisations.
    • Provide administrative, educational and supportive functions.

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
    • Appropriate three-year tertiary degree (NQF Level 7) recognised by SAQA in:
      • Community Development; or
      • Bachelor of Social Science (Human and Societal Dynamics); or
      • An equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum of 7 years’ recognisable experience in Community Development after obtaining the required qualification.
    • Knowledge, skills, attitudes and values relating to Community Development and the social development of communities.
    • Knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and social systems.
    • Knowledge of relevant legislation to support interventions where people interact with their environments and promote self-empowerment.
    • Ability to coordinate community development structures.
    • Ability to manage projects.
    • Ability to influence individuals and groups to participate in self-empowerment initiatives.
    • Understanding of social dynamics.
    • Valid driver’s licence.
