- Salary: R253,341 – R424,371 per annum
- Salary level and notch will be determined according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) requirements and years of relevant experience.
Job Purpose
The Artisan Production (Locksmith) is responsible for providing professional locksmith services, maintaining locks and security hardware, supporting facility maintenance, training offenders and apprentices in locksmithing skills, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and security requirements, and managing workshop resources within correctional facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Locksmith Services
- Install, repair, and maintain locks, keys, and locking systems.
- Perform routine locksmith maintenance on facilities.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in locking mechanisms.
- Ensure the proper functioning of security hardware.
- Support the maintenance of departmental infrastructure.
2. Facilities Maintenance
- Perform locksmith-related maintenance on buildings and facilities.
- Maintain security equipment and locking systems.
- Ensure infrastructure remains safe and operational.
- Contribute to preventative and corrective maintenance programmes.
3. Training and Skills Development
- Train offenders in locksmith trade skills.
- Supervise and mentor apprentices.
- Support workplace skills development initiatives.
- Monitor learner progress and practical competence.
4. Equipment Management
- Ensure the effective utilisation of locksmith tools and equipment.
- Maintain workshop equipment in good working condition.
- Monitor the availability of materials and tools.
- Promote safe use of specialised equipment.
5. Administration
- Perform administrative duties related to locksmith services.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Maintain maintenance records.
- Record completed work and resource usage.
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities.
6. Health, Safety and Security
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
- Adhere to departmental security procedures.
- Promote safe working practices.
- Maintain secure handling of keys, locks, and security equipment.
7. Resource Management
- Manage locksmith materials and equipment.
- Monitor resource utilisation.
- Ensure efficient use of departmental assets.
- Support inventory management where required.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Locksmith) underwritten by the Manpower Training Act (Red Seal).
- A valid driver’s licence.
