    Job Description

    The Department of Industrial Psychology is seeking experienced academics to contribute to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, leadership, and community engagement. The successful candidates will play a key role in advancing the department’s strategic objectives through scholarly excellence, research leadership, postgraduate mentorship, and collaboration with industry, government, and professional bodies.

    The positions are available at Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor level depending on the candidate’s qualifications, research profile, academic achievements, and experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    • Teach Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Develop and review curricula within the faculty.
    • Ensure high-quality learning experiences for students.

    Research and Scholarship

    • Conduct high-quality research aligned with faculty research priorities.
    • Publish research findings in accredited national and international journals.
    • Present research papers at scholarly conferences.
    • Contribute to the department’s research output and reputation.
    • Pursue research funding opportunities and collaborative research projects.

    Postgraduate Supervision

    • Supervise Honours, Master’s and PhD students.
    • Mentor and supervise Industrial Psychology interns where applicable.
    • Guide postgraduate students to successful completion of their studies.

    Academic Leadership

    • Provide leadership in support of departmental and faculty strategic goals.
    • Promote excellence in teaching, research, engaged scholarship, and administration.
    • Serve on academic committees and contribute to institutional governance.

    Administration

    • Manage academic administration for undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
    • Set, moderate, and mark assessments and examinations.
    • Record marks and address student-related academic matters.
    • Perform duties assigned by the Dean and Head of Department.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain partnerships with:
      • Research institutions
      • Government departments
      • Industry partners
      • Civil society organisations
      • Professional bodies

    Minimum Requirements

    Senior Lecturer

    Qualifications

    • Relevant Doctoral Degree (NQF Level 10) in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management.

    OR

    • Equivalent doctoral qualification together with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Psychology.

    Experience

    • Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Experience presenting papers or posters at national scholarly conferences.
    • Proven national recognition in a specialist area of scholarship.
    • Experience supervising Master’s students to completion and, where applicable, Industrial Psychology interns.
    • Active participation in scholarly societies or research committees.

    Research Requirements

    • Established publication record in accredited national and international journals.
    • NRF rating or demonstrated potential to obtain an NRF rating.

    Associate Professor

    Qualifications

    • Relevant Doctoral Degree (NQF Level 10) in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management.

    Experience

    • Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
    • Experience serving as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • Experience presenting peer-reviewed research papers at national conferences.
    • Editorial board membership of a scholarly journal.
    • Proven research leadership and national recognition.
    • Successful supervision of Master’s students and Industrial Psychology interns.

    Research Requirements

    • Strong publication record in accredited journals.
    • NRF Rating of C3 or equivalent.

    Professor

    Qualifications

    • Relevant Doctoral Degree (NQF Level 10) in Industrial Psychology or Human Resource Management.

    Experience

    • Extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
    • Experience serving as external examiner for Master’s and Doctoral students.
    • Editorial board membership of scholarly journals.
    • Proven international research recognition and leadership.
    • Experience delivering keynote addresses at scholarly conferences.
    • Membership of national or international scholarly societies and research committees.
    • Successful supervision of Master’s and preferably Doctoral students.

    Research Requirements

    • Significant publication record in high-quality accredited journals.
    • NRF Rating of C1 or C2, or demonstrated potential to obtain such rating.
    • Regular reviewing activities for international journals.

    Recommended Requirements

    Preference may be given to candidates with:

    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa or the South African Board for People Practices.
    • Experience supervising PhD students to completion.
    • Professional supervision of Industrial Psychology interns.
    • Experience applying for and securing research funding.
    • Evidence of multidisciplinary research collaboration.
    • Public engagement and dissemination of research findings.
