Job Title: Senior State Advocate

Responsibilities:
-
Prosecute serious, complex, and organised crime cases including corruption matters.
-
Guide and advise police on investigations into serious and organised crimes.
-
Draft charge sheets, legal documents, heads of argument, and represent the State in all courts.

Conduct legal research and stay updated on legal developments.
-
Argue appeals and reviews, and appear in motion proceedings.
-
Lead and cross-examine witnesses, and address the court on convictions and sentencing.

Manage and evaluate performance of junior staff.
Qualifications:
-
LLB degree (or any appropriate legal qualification for serving prosecutors seeking promotion).

Minimum of 8 years post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
-
Admission as an advocate or attorney is advantageous.
-
Right of appearance in terms of section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
Skills and Knowledge:
-
High-level proficiency in court litigation and advocacy.
-
Knowledge of asset forfeiture law and statutory offences.
-
Strong legal research, drafting, and communication skills.
-
Familiarity with civil and/or criminal procedure.
-
Competent in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
-
Demonstrated ability to work independently, professionally, and with accountability.
-
Willingness to travel and work extended hours when necessary.

Total cost-to-company remuneration package: R1,195,110 – R1,859,814 per annum (LP-9)
