Job Description
The Diesel Technician will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, fault-finding, and diagnosis on Volvo heavy commercial vehicles.
The main purpose of the role is to produce the required labour hours through high-quality maintenance and repair work while meeting the company’s required quality and efficiency standards.
The successful candidate will interpret technical information, follow Volvo repair procedures, diagnose vehicle failures, and ensure that repairs are completed to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Diesel Technician will be responsible for:
- Conducting fault-finding and diagnosis on Volvo products.
- Identifying and interpreting vehicle underperformance and failures.
- Using Volvo manuals and service literature to diagnose and repair vehicles.
- Interpreting and implementing technical information from Volvo service documentation.
- Following workshop manuals and prescribed repair procedures.
- Carrying out maintenance and repair work according to required specifications.
- Ensuring all repairs meet Volvo’s quality standards.
- Delivering excellent customer service by following established procedures and processes.
- Preparing comprehensive and accurate reports on vehicle diagnosis.
- Reporting on component and part failures.
- Recording observations, actions taken, and recommendations.
- Following the required procedures when attending customer breakdowns.
- Liaising with drivers before responding to breakdown-related calls.
- Ensuring the correct documentation is completed accurately before submission.
- Complying with ISO 9001 and applicable safety standards.
- Working efficiently to achieve required labour-hour targets.
- Reporting to and working closely with the Team Leader.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Matric / N3.
- Trade Test Certificate – Qualified Diesel Mechanic.
Work Experience
Candidates must have:
- At least 3 years’ dealership experience.
- Experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy commercial vehicles.
- Proven fault-finding and diagnostic experience.
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
- Ability to correctly use and interpret relevant measuring equipment.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle repair procedures.
- Practical ability to carry out correct repair work.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and specifications and apply the information in practice.
- Good understanding of maintenance and repair processes.
- Ability to diagnose vehicle faults accurately.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work according to quality and safety standards.
- Good customer-service skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
