The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking a qualified and experienced Clinical Preceptor in Occupational Health Nursing for a 5-year contract appointment. The role is dedicated to supporting nursing students in developing clinical competence through guided learning, supervision, and assessment within both the skills laboratory and real clinical environments.
The Clinical Preceptor acts as a bridge between the School of Nursing and clinical practice settings, ensuring that students receive continuous support, structured clinical exposure, constructive feedback, and sound professional guidance. The position requires strong clinical expertise, instructional ability, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to high standards in nursing education.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Teaching & Student Support

Orientate students to skills laboratories and clinical facilities.

Facilitate clinical teaching, learning, and assessments in clinical settings.

Accompany and supervise students continuously in clinical facilities.

Provide coaching, mentoring, remedial support, and constructive feedback.

Participate in assessments of clinical competence.
Monitoring & Evaluation

Monitor and record students’ clinical movements and progress.

Participate in ongoing evaluation of clinical learning experiences.

Maintain an updated portfolio of evidence of own work and submit regularly.
Administration & Clinical Duties
-
Perform additional clinical duties as assigned by the department.

Foster effective communication and collaboration among students, staff, and patients.

Mediate between UFS School of Nursing and clinical practice partners.

Apply conflict management and interpersonal skills to support a positive learning environment.
Inherent Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 8) or equivalent.

Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse (General, Psychiatry, Community) and Midwife.

Additional qualification in Occupational Health Nursing.

Additional qualification in Nursing Education.

Valid driver’s license.
Recommendations

Master’s Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 9).

SANC registration as an Assessor and/or Moderator.
