The University of the Free State invites qualified and research-active candidates to apply for the position of Lecturer in Curriculum Studies and Education Theory within the Faculty of Education. This role contributes to high-quality teaching, research, curriculum development, and student supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with a strong focus on Education Theory, Curriculum Theory, Philosophy of Education, and Intermediate/Senior Primary Phase Teaching.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
-
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Education Theory, Curriculum Theory, Philosophy of Education, and Intermediate/Senior Primary Phase teaching.

Participate in the faculty’s Work Integrated Learning (Teaching Practice) programme.

Contribute to curriculum development within the focus areas.
Research & Scholarship
-
Engage actively in research activities within the faculty.

Publish research outputs in accredited journals or scholarly outlets.

Present poster or oral presentations at academic conferences.
-
Produce manuscripts that can be developed into publishable academic articles.
Student Support & Supervision
-
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Provide consultation sessions and academic guidance.
Administration & Leadership
-
Undertake leadership, committee work, and administrative duties within the faculty.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to departmental cohesion.
Inherent Requirements
For a Permanent Appointment
-
A Doctoral degree in Education (NQF 10) with a focus on Education Theory, Curriculum Theory, or Philosophy of Education.
For a 5-Year Contract Appointment
-
A Master’s degree in Education (NQF 9) with the same focus areas.

Proof of registration for a relevant PhD (attach).
-
An abstract of the thesis/dissertation indicating relevance to the field (attach).
Additional Required Criteria
-
A formal teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Education) preferably with Intermediate/Senior Primary Phase Teaching.

A minimum of:

5 years of relevant experience in a school environment, OR
-
2 years in higher education or research/development.

Proven experience presenting at academic conferences.

Evidence of at least one manuscript with potential for publication.
Recommendations (Added Advantage)

A proven track record of research publications in accredited national or international journals (Q1–Q4).

Experience in postgraduate supervision.
