It supports the Premier in executing the mandate of responsive, accountable, and people-centred government. Through innovative and impactful programmes, the department strengthens intergovernmental relations, service delivery, and social cohesion in the province.
The Chief Directorate: Provincial Intervention is tasked with leading government response mechanisms to community concerns, enhancing citizen engagement, and implementing turnaround strategies for improved service delivery. The unit also manages key platforms such as the Premier’s Hotline, Thusong Centres, and Community Development Worker (CDW) programmes.
The department is seeking a results-driven, strategic leader to fill the position of Chief Director: Provincial Intervention, ensuring that the voices of communities translate into meaningful government action.

Responsibilities:
Intervention Services Management
Lead the Premier’s Intervention Services, including:
Oversight of Community Contact Services
Manage Provincial and Local Intervention Services
Provide research and technical support for responsive interventions
Contact Centre & Hotline Oversight
Coordinate the Presidential Hotline and ensure integration within the provincial service environment
Oversee the Provincial Contact Centre, ensuring timely and efficient resolution of citizen queries
Community Development Coordination
Manage the Community Development Workers (CDW) Programme
Supervise the effective operation of Thusong Service Centres across the Free State
Support integrated access to government services at community level
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Develop and implement turnaround strategies to address service delivery challenges
Provide strategic advice to departments and stakeholders on intervention measures
Engage with public representatives and communities to understand service delivery blockages
Budgeting & Human Resource Management
Oversee the budget as a Sub-programme Manager
Lead, mentor, and manage personnel in the component
Coordinate the development and review of job descriptions
Facilitate skills development and training interventions for staff
Drive performance management, organizational development, and team culture
Qualifications:
A NQF Level 7 qualification as recognized by SAQA, preferably in Social Sciences or related fields
Minimum of 5 years’ senior managerial experience in a similar environment
Proven track record in developing and implementing turnaround strategies
Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies applicable to corporate reform and public sector engagement
Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
SMS Pre-entry Certificate is compulsory prior to appointment. (More info: NSG SMS Course)
Benefits:
Annual Salary: R1 494 900 per annum (Level 14, all-inclusive package)
Includes basic salary, state contribution to Government Employee Pension Fund, and a flexible portion (may include car allowance, housing allowance, 13th cheque, and medical aid)
Appointment is subject to a Performance Agreement within 3 months
